Recreation offer $500 reward for tip leading to arrest

of Ford Rd Complex & Trail Vandalism

With recent additions including a new playground, updated safety netting, and the on-going construction of a highly anticipated hiking trail, the Cherokee Recreation District is hoping to revitalize the Ford Road Complex. With continued efforts to create a fun and safe family environment in the area, the Recreation has been met with multiple frustrating setbacks as there have been numerous incidents over the past few months where trespassers have repeatedly caused extensive damages from off-roading dirt bikes, four-wheelers, trucking, and etc.to the Ford Road Complex softball fields and highly anticipated walking/hiking trail. Due to these repeated offenses, the Cherokee Recreation District has been forced to close public access to their entire Ford Road Complex property until all trail construction is complete and vandalism has ceased. Though the area is a wonderful spot to have outdoor fun, no off-road vehicles or off-roading of any kind is allowed on any part of the property. The Cherokee Recreation District says a $500 cash reward is being offered for to any who can help officers identify and apprehend the person responsible for the latest damages.

Anyone with information surrounding this incident is asked to contact the Cherokee Recreation Office at 864-489-6036.

Severe damages to all four softball fields of the Ford Road Complex were discovered by the Recreation on Monday, August 26th after an unknown dirt-bike enthusiast decided to sneak unto the property not only rutting up every in-field, but also destroying several home plates, pitcher-mounds, and bases.

Repeated trail damage incidents like such pictured where off-roaders have destroyed trail construction and repairs ultimately keeping the public from being able to enjoy a great fishing spot and delaying the original May scheduled Open Trail Celebration Day to currently estimated late September.
