The Mission of the Cherokee Recreation District is to provide and administer comprehensive parks and recreation programs, facilities, and services to the citizens of Cherokee County, SC. We strive to enrich the quality of life for our youth and adults for the present and future generations of Cherokee County.

The Cherokee Recreation has certain rules and regulations posted throughout our campuses and facilities to ensure that everyone's visit is pleasant and enjoyable. These policies are maintained in consideration of our guests and to protect the resources within the Cherokee Recreation District's parks. The following prohibitions included but are not limited to : pets and wheeled/mechanical toys.

A HIKING WE WILL GO...

Cherokee County opened 2.5 miles of natural surface trail, along with a new trailhead and parking area at Lake Whelchel on Pleasant School Road. The Lake Whelchel trail is a component of two regional trail networks: the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail (OVVI) and the Carolina Thread Trail (CTT). Cherokee County Administrator Merv Bishop added, “This trail is more than just a path through the woods — it’s a connection to our community, to our shared history, and to the natural beauty that makes Cherokee County such a special place. Partnerships like this — with the Gaffney Board of Public Works, the Overmountain Victory Trail, the Carolina Thread Trail, and all the volunteers and organizations who pitched in — show what’s possible when we work together for a common cause.”
